Web Hostings Server Seizure

Web Hostings Server Seizure

The FBI has seized the servers of a web hostings provider from their data facility, which caused a number of customer sites to go down before service was transferred to other facilities. FBI agents took three full rakcs of blade servers from a facility in Maryland that is run by DigitalOne, a Switzerland hosting company.

DigitalOne's web page, along with the popular real estate blog Curbed and the Eater restaurant blog were all affected by the outage. The Pinboard bookmarking site was another victim of the raid, but was able to maintain some service because some of its pages were transferred to a backup facility. A note from DigitalOne said that the FBI was looking for a information on a particular client. The company was clearly upset by the agency's decision to take servers that contained no data related to that one client, calling the agency's work "unprofessional".
